Where the Wild North Begins

Samburu

A remote northern reserve home to rare wildlife and the Samburu Special Five.

About Samburu

Samburu National Reserve sits in Kenya's arid north, bisected by the palm-fringed Ewaso Ng'iro River. This rugged landscape is home to the Samburu Special Five: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and the long-necked gerenuk. Far fewer visitors make it this far north, giving the reserve an intimate, off-the-beaten-path quality that is hard to find elsewhere in Kenya.
